Kenpo Karate is modern term describing one of the more innovative systems of the Martial Arts which originated in Hawaii, is heavily practiced in the Americas, and has now spread worldwide. KEN means Fist, and PO means Law. Because of Grand Master Ed Parker's numerous contributions of innovative concepts and principles, many Kenpo practitioners are referring to modern day KENPO as PARKER KENPO.

Kenpo is a form of self-defense. All the moves and techniques are defensive, used to protect oneself from an attack. Kenpo simply put is " pure intelligence of thought and motion." Mr. Parker added concepts, theories, principles, and innovations that had never been used in other systems. These innovations are what make Mr. Parker's system unique, practical, logical, realistic and applicable. Parker Kenpo has often been referred to as the "University of Martial Arts". Starting with the student's very first lesson they begin to learn not only the physical aspect of a technique, but and understanding of why and how that technique works. The Parker Kenpo System employs linear as well as circular movements, utilizing itermittent power when and where needed, interspersed with minor and major moves that flow with continuity. It is flexible in thought and action, allowing one to "act" upon any situation one may encounter instead of "re-acting" to the situation. Click here to learn more about Kenpo Karate.

At UMAATC, Sifu Mack is dedicated to educating the student in the theory of Kenpo as Mr. Parker instructed it. Sifu Mack had the privilege to have studied directly with Grand Master Parker in 1972. Mr. Parker sat on Sifu Mack's 1st Degree Black Belt testing board. Click here to learn more about Sifu Mack.

UMAATC's Kenpo Karate classes are taught at outreach locations and broken into four basic age groups: Lil Dragons (children ages 2-5), Youth Classes (children ages 6-12) Teen Clases (ages 13 - 17), and Adult Classes. Below you will find information about the different classes and locations as well as a few photos. If you would like to see more photos of our students and instructors in action, please check out our Student Pages by clicking here.

Childrens and Adult classes are taught at all locations.

Lil Dragons (Ages 2-5, Preschool)

First week of Lil Dragon class The Lil Dragons at MLK line up to practice their punches.
The classes are structured and tailored to the individual's attention and skill level. The classes are designed to teach learning skills through the martial arts. Parents are an integral part of their training, therefore are expected to attend every class. We read stories, role play and in each class we have structured fun & games that teach the principles in the martial arts, as well as life skills and safety skills. As an end result of our program the children start to develop self-esteem, self-confidence, learn respect and begin even at this young age, learn to accept responsibility for their actions. Class length will depend on the child's attention level. To Learn More Click Here

Kid Kicks Super Stars Youth Classes (ages 6-12, Kindergarten - 6th grade)

Denton MLK Students Jesse and Anastasia

In the KKSS program the children begin in earnest to learn the Parker Kenpo system. All New students are required to go through the Mini- Introductory Program. The student must earn the right to wear a uniform. There are four Belt Programs where student will progress from beginner to Black Belt.

  • Beginner's Belt Program - White, Yellow and Orange Belts
  • Intermediate Belt Program - Purple, Green, and Blue Belts
  • Advanced Belt Program - 3rd Degree Brown, 2nd Degree Brown and 1st Degree Brown.
  • Master Belt Program - 1st through 4th Degree Black Belts
The Super Stars Program is a program where at each belt level, there is a specific life skill the student will be focusing on. The student will receive stars to be worn on their uniform pants. This program unites UMAATC with the students’ academic teachers and parents. There is a checklist and homework the student takes to his/her teachers.

At UMAATC the all students (including College students) are required to maintain a certain grade average depending on belt rank. Students that maintain a Grade Point Average of 80% and higher will earn an ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT PATCH to be worn on the uniform top. To Learn More About Kids Kicks click HERE.
